I don't know if it applies to this situation, but can't hurt to change the file name. Sometimes files with non-letter-or-number characters in the name can be troublesome. But who knows? Might help? I see that the file you're trying to open has a + in it. Oh, one more, probably irrelevant, comment. There probably is (are?) a plethora of topics on it. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format. Besides that, it looks to me like you followed the instructions correctly, for that part.ĭid you find ps2pdf? Or did you install it? And is that path actually the path to where Ghostscript is installed on your computer?īeyond that, I can only suggest searching for the forum. Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. Convert the file to anything from a JPEG to a PDF > Open Inkscape > Go to File > Open > Follow the prompts and select OK. When I look at mine, there is no semi-colon at the end. EPS files require specialized software to open, the reason that they cannot be opened directly by the Inkscape is that they should be imported into Inkscape first. But I noticed you have a semi-colon at the end. It looks like you set up that path value properly. That IS a ridiculously small field, for all those values! I don't know, since as I mentioned, I've never done this. I'll be glad to fix the faq, if that info isn't correct, but someone will have to tell me what to write. When I recently updated the FAQ, since I don't need to use EPS files, and never have set up my system to open them, I just transferred the content from the old faq to the new one. Well, there IS a way to set up Inkscape, to be able to open EPS files. Inkcape_eps.PNG (199.55 KiB) Viewed 6974 times ![]() In any case the FAQ must be somewhat incomplete, since I followed it properly but still can't import EPS? Or is this to be considered a bug? ![]() ![]() Is the log in chronological order?Īttached also a screenshot showing the PATH variables, and the Inkscape error. Some of the errors may be old, from before I installed Ghostscript. I haven't done anything to make it generic. The way it's written, output files go in a subdirectory (folder) called "tileimages", and imagemagick's 'convert' utility is used to generate thumbnails in a subdirectory called "thumbs". if sh gives you errors, let me know and make it sh-compatible.) I'm pretty sure this will work for you on the Mac. I wrote a little Bash script (I'm on Linux) that compares the age of my PNG to the age of the SVG source and reexports the image if the SVG is newer than the PNG. You can tell Inkscape to export a PNG from the command-line, and there are quite a few options to allow a lot of control. but that's not something you have to do by hand via the File menu! Every time I make a tweak to a set of tiles, I have to reexport them. drawings (fantasy gaming map tiles) that need to be output to PNG and then imported into another document for publication. I'm doing something similar to your project with Inkscape. (GIMP and Photoshop both store very complicated files with layer information, etc that aren't in your PNG file.) If you want to design with vectors, or even if you're designing in pixels with the GIMP or Photoshop in their native formats, but you want bitmap output, you're going to have to export to the final format you want. I'm worried because I don't want to click Export after making minute changes to a picture. ![]()
